Seafarer’s GDPR

In accordance with Reg. (EU) 2016/679 of the European parliament and of the Council of 27.4.2016. in the protection of natural persons with regard to processing of personal data and the free movement of such data and repealing Dir. 95/46 EC (GDPR) as well as with the national laws on protection of personal data, seafarers:

  • Give explicit consent for the NM and the employer to hold, process, store, transfer, transmit and use personal information for the purpose of insurance claims made in light of an incident (accident or illness).
  • Have the right to access such personal data as kept by the NM and the employer and to have the right to correct such information when appropriate evidence can be provided about the information being incorrect.
  • Are responsible to provide any update information to the NM and the employer, which requires records to be held by them.
  • Until the NM and employer receives written notification of any changes to be made, that the NM and the employer shall assume that all information they have in its records are correct.
  • Understand that the NM and the employer will provide, and submit personal details to insurance companies for the purpose of insurance claims made in light of an incident (accident or illness).
  • Acknowledge that they are entitled at any time to withdraw their consent for any further processing of their personal information held by the NM and the employer in accordance with their rights under the low. Personal data collected will be adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in a manner that insures appropriate security against unauthorized or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organization measures. Further information is contained in the employer’s data protection and privacy policies which will be made available.
  • Understand that the NM and the employer are not prevented from disclosing personal information when required or allowed to do so by low. This includes cases concerning national or public security, commission, prevention of criminal offenses or legal proceedings.
